Lovely. The village where we live (part-time for now) in central Crete has a similar thread through it. This was a delightful piece to read, and I’m looking forward to more.
The early mornings & late evenings are the best times of the day to see our lovely village, often catching up & chatting to the same people at each end of the day! Thanks, Claire. It’ll keep us going til we’re there again!
I loved your mention of George Afordakis. He's a great character whom I've had the pleasure to chat with on several occasions in the museum. He's extremely knowledgeable on the plant life of Crete - we always sat down with a cup of herb tea which he's brewed and chatted together. He told me about his marathon running days; I was most interested to hear about it as my eldest son is both a marathon runner and an ultra-marathon runner, taking part in races over 100+ miles. I, too, was a runner back in the day, representing UK on a few occasions in cross-country events. It has always been great to meet George - I hope to do so again before too much longer
